The good old slip dress. It never lets you down and it always looks elevated. A slip dress is a classic in my wardrobe along with my jeans and blazers. All it takes is a little layering to style from day to night or Spring to Winter. Read on for some quick styling tips on how I wear a slip dress. IGTV video over here!
A simple slip dress is perfect for a date night or even a wedding (similar here). Keeping my palette neutral, I wore nude heels to make my legs appear longer (exact here). Add some of your favorite jewelry to finish it all off. Maybe even add some barrettes (see my favorite ones from this post).
Add a blazer over the slip dress and cinch it in with a belt. This a great way to style an over-sized blazer with a feminine dress. If the belt can’t hold the blazer together, add a safety pin to secure the closure. Since this is work attire, I paired this look with some kitten heels (similar here). Comfortable yet functional.
COZY BUT CUTE
Spring is here and that means pastels! I wore this chunky lavender sweater (exact here) over my slip dress (similar here). If your slip dress is long like mine, you can shorten the length by wearing a belt under your sweater. Watch my IGTV video to see how I did this. Since the belt is small, it will not look bulky under the sweater. I wore my favorite white boots (similar here) to give me some height.
I’ve been talking about layering over and under a slip dress but why not both. Pair your favorite t-shirt (similar here) under the slip dress for a more casual vibe. Make sure the t-shirt isn’t too over-sized or it will appear bulky in person. Next, add a cardigan over everything and some woven slides (similar here).
FLIRTY AND SKIRTY
You can pull this trick with most of your dresses in your closet. I wore this midi skirt since it hides any bulkiness from the dress and it gives the look some shape. This is a great way to add some pattern to your outfit if you have some patterned skirts lying around. Recently, I bought these blacks heels (exact here) and they are perfect with so many looks.
